Abstract Reviews the study investigating image and role of librarians in diverse settings and different historical periods spanning more than a centuary. Spread over four aspects– professional role, cultural images, popular perceptions and future trends, the paper attempts to bring together historical analysis and survey of present situation of the social perception of librarians.
