Abstract Describes User Education, need and objectives of user education programmes, the networked environment NIT in Libraries. Traces origin, history and development of RECs in India (now named as NITs). States the status of User Education Programmes in NIT Libraries of India. mentions issues and challenges of user education programmes. Recommends that the user education programme should be run on regular basis and must be included in all the courses of studies in all the NITs of India.
