Abstract
The purpose of this brief paper is to look back and see how the subject classification practice was taught by Late Professor C P Vashishth in the University of Delhi. Two most famous manuals i.e Colon Classification and Dewey Decimal Classification were in the curricula. The teacher adopted the most effective method ‘practice based learning’ in the classroom with patience and devotion. The students mostly post graduates were encouraged to express their views and learn the subject in a friendly and participatory environment. Two important components of LIS education i.e. classification and cataloguing dominated the library world during the 1970’s. The importance of these two subjects has waned in the recent years largely due to dominance of Internet based library services
