Abstract

The most crucial task of conducting a research project is the selection of research topic, and designing a methodology. Selecting a constructive topic for conducting research needs-in-depth study of the areas of research in the subject and awareness of the methods of conducting the study. The paper's objective is to bring-out some basic concepts the researchers has to bear in mind while selecting a topic and conducting the study; and is addressed for the masters degree students and research scholars in Library Science. It deals with characteristics, features of qualitative and quantitative research, different kinds of research and their approaches, the steps in defining a research problem and the subject areas of conducted research in LIS; steps in research design and synopsis presentation.
