Abstract This is a review of the literature covering the retrieval effectiveness of Internet Search Engines. Literature is reviewed under appropriate headings and subheadings and includes mostly literature published from the 1990s onwards. The sources consulted for the purpose of this literature review were mostly journals though relevant websites were also accessed. The more used journals were Information Today and JASIS.
