Abstract
The current study tries to explore the position of job satisfaction in developing knowledge sharing behavior among library employees working in educational institutions with reference to our country, India. An enumerative cross-sectional survey was conducted among three hundred library staff members who worked in diverse educational institutions in India. The study called for gender balance by using quota sampling in selecting an equal number of male and female participants, directed to drop gender related prejudices and accurately reflect the prospects of both genders. A structural equation modeling is used to analyze data to understand the relationship between job satisfaction and knowledge sharing. Both intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfactions impact on the knowledge sharing conduct of the library staff. Intrinsic satisfaction, inclusive of personal growth and recognition, highly predicts the positive knowledge-sharing behavior, while extrinsic satisfaction, such as that obtained from salary and job security, has a profound effect but to a lesser extent. The study also generates out the mediating role played by organizational communication and community of practice in enhancing knowledge sharing. Some of the most convincing steps towards knowledge sharing are professional development opportunities coupled with the recognition of individual’s contribution and ensuring job security. This study would be adding value to the literature, since from past findings; it provided experimental evidence of the relationship between job satisfactions as well as knowledge sharing within libraries. This highlights the importance of intrinsic and extrinsic factors in creating a knowledge-sharing environment.
