Abstract The paper provides a review of recent developments in electronic publishing in BRICS countries, with a focus on Open Access (OA). It describes the status of OA publishing with regard to OA repositories and OA journals by collecting data from ROAR, Open DOAR and DOAJ. Finally a comparison of the retrieved data of the five BRICS countries is presented. It is inferred from the comparison that the Open Access is getting momentum among BRICS countries. BRICS are taking different initiatives to boost up the open access movement. The study recommended developing the ICT infrastructure of BRICS to make OA successful in real sense.
