Circulation statistics in a Nigerian university library

Abstract

The paper discusses the use of statistical records in circulation. It analysis the data collected on daily basis and breaks them into collected on daily basis and breaks them into subject groups so as to determine the use of the book-stock at the University of Illorin. Library over a period of six months. It also seeks to find out whether the subject group of book-consulted correlate with those loaned out. The analysis shows that the subject areas where books are mostly borrowed are also the most heavily used. It concludes and recommends that circulation statistics should not be an end itself, but rather should be a means to an end; i.e is a tool for better planning and improved services.
