Abstract

Purpose: The foremost objective of the abovementioned study was to study the status of the Knowledge Management practices and the challenges that are encountered by the professionals of field of Library and Information Science.

Methodology: The methodology for conducting the survey was primarily to collect the relevant data pertaining to Knowledge Management. A structured questionnaire was distributed amongst the Library and Information professionals who were deeply involved in providing essential services to the various types of users, which included the faculty members. An analysis of the collected data was analysed with the aim of determining whether the hypothesis created was true or false and liable to be discarded. The detailed analysis was completed by using the SPSS software.

Conclusions: A majority of the Information Science professionals encountered the intellectual challenges to achieve implicit knowledge to develop culture for creating and sharing knowledge, confrontation of creating knowledge storehouses, updating to the latest state-of-the-art technology for offering and optimum level of effective services, knowledge, editing and repackaging in innovative manners. They generally meet the challenge of being excellent knowledge providers as subject turning into subject matter experts. Further, they also face a major challenges of digitising library resources for ease of access since there are budgetary constraints and depend on the outcomes of Central and State Governments.

Originality: The uniqueness of this study is authentic in nature. This study is purely an original work containing the expected results and results that would assist the Library and Information Science professionals to recognize and meet the challenges to adopt Knowledge management practices in the Academic Libraries.
