Abstract The study is based on 73 Sanskrit polyglot dictionaries published from India and abroad covering the period of 1798 to 1999. It defines the term polyglot and gives meaning, importance, objective, scope, hypotheses, sources of data, methodology and author-wise, place-wise, subject-wise, publisher-wise, language-wise, year-wise analysis of polyglot dictionaries. Subject wise analysis of data indicates that 49 polyglot dictionaries deal with different Indian and foreign languages and literatures. Language group wise analysis shows maximum of this type of dictionaries compiled in Sanskrit-English-Hindi, which accounted for 14. Maximum 3 publications emerged from International Academy of Indian Culture. Place wise distribution of collected data indicates that as many as 13 polyglot dictionaries are published from Calcutta. Year wise distribution of data indicates that maximum publications 18 emerged in the period of 1901–1925.
