Citation analysis of doctoral theses in the field of commerce and financial studies awarded by University of Delhi: A study

Shukla Anish1, Bhatt R K2 1Research Scholar, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, India. 2Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, India Abstract The current research is based on 1869 journal citations in the doctorate theses in the field of Commerce and Financial Studies awarded by the University of Delhi available in Shodhganga: a digital repository of dissertations and thesis presented to Indian institutions and Universities is an Indian thesis reservoir. It is administered by INFLIBNET, an independent inter-university centre of the Indian University Grants Commission. The primary aim of the current study was to examine the pattern of the authorship of the citations, document types cited, and create a ranking of key journals for Commerce and Financial Studies. The study showed that journals were the most popular information sources utilized by Commerce and Financial Studies researchers, accounting for 61.52% of the total citations, followed by 13.00% citations of books. The Journal of Finance scored first with 201 citations, representing 10.75% of the total journal citations. Journal of Financial Economics came second with 131 citations accounted for 7.01% of overall journal citations followed by The Review of Financial Studies has ranked third with 48 citations accounted for 2.57% of total journal citations. The authorship pattern for journal citations indicates that the majority of the citations were submitted by two authors who dominate in Commerce and Financial Studies with the effect of collaborative research. They primarily rely on literature from United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, India, and among other places; Elsevier, Wiley-Blackwell, American Finance Association, Oxford University Press were among the most popular publishers in Commerce and Financial Studies.
