Abstract This paper presents an overview of autonomous colleges and their libraries in Chennai. The major objectives of the study are to survey the faculty background of the Autonomous Arts and Science Colleges in Chennai, responses on the provision and the use of library services, resources and facilities in their respective colleges and to analyse their satisfaction or otherwise on the library services, resources and facilities provided by these autonomous colleges. For this purpose a total of 375 faculties were taken from 25 autonomous colleges in Chennai. The responses have been analysed and based on their perception, few suggestions were given to improve library services of these colleges.
